It also refers to the format in which a distorted image is stretched by an anamorphic projection lens to recreate the original aspect ratio on the viewing screen. In the s, phonograph and motion picture pioneer Leon F. Douglass also created special effects, however, how this relates to the earlier French invention, and later development, is unclear.
Anamorphic widescreen was not used again for cinematography until when Twentieth Century-Fox bought the rights to the technique to create its CinemaScope widescreen technique, CinemaScope was one of many widescreen formats developed in the s to compete with the popularity of television and bring audiences back to the cinemas.
The Robe, which premiered inwas the first feature film released that was filmed with an anamorphic lens, the development of anamorphic widescreen arose due to a desire for wider aspect ratios while maintaining the use of standard cameras and projectors, and maximising overall image detail.
The modern anamorphic format has a ratio of 2. Academy format 35 mm film has a ratio of 1. To make full use of the film, thereby increasing overall image detail. Whatever the method used, the anamorphic lens leaves the image on film looking as if it had been stretched vertically and this deliberate geometric distortion is then reversed upon projection, resulting in a wider aspect ratio on-screen than that of the frame as recorded on film.
An anamorphic lens consists of a spherical lens, plus an anamorphic attachment that does the anamorphosing.
The anamorphic element operates at infinite focal length, but still nevertheless anamorphoses the optical field. When an anamorphic attachment is used, one uses a lens of a different focal length than one would for 1. Since a larger film area needed to be used in order to record the same picture and it should be noted that the picture is not manipulated in any way in the dimension that is orthogonal to the one anamorphosed.
Cinerama was an attempt to solve the problem of high-quality widescreen imaging. Nonetheless, the format was popular enough with audiences to spur studios to the wide screen developments of the early s, a few films were distributed in Cinerama format and shown in special theaters. Anamorphic widescreen was attractive to studios because of its high aspect ratio, without the disadvantages of Cineramas added complexities 6.
Musical composition — People who create new compositions are called composers in classical music. In popular music and traditional music, the creators of new songs are usually called songwriters, with songs, Composition is the act or practice of creating a song or other piece of music. In popular music and traditional music, songwriting may involve the creation of an outline of the song, called the lead sheet.
In jazz and popular music, notable recordings by influential performers are given the weight that written or printed scores play in classical music. Although a musical composition often uses musical notation and has a single author, a piece of music can also be composed with words, images, or, since the 20th century, with computer programs that explain or notate how the singer or musician should create musical sounds.
A more commonly known example of chance-based music is the sound of wind chimes jingling in a breeze, although in the s, composition is considered to consist of the manipulation of each aspect of music, according to Jean-Benjamin de Laborde, Composition consists in two things only.
The first is the ordering and disposing of several sounds. The second is the rendering audible of two or more simultaneous sounds in such a manner that their combination is pleasant and this is what we call harmony, and it alone merits the name of composition. In classical music, a piece of music exists in the form of a composition in musical notation or as a live acoustic event.
Since the invention of recording, a classical piece or popular song may also exist as a recording. Or rage, or of love. Which is pretty much all you need to hear about it. There are some tricky conditions to these, though. And as another point, they can only speak truth. It is impossible to lie in a shigofumi, and so therefore, at least according to the sender, whatever is in the letter can be taken as gospel.
There may be male-mail carriers, but hell if we see any in the show. The main character of our story is one of this number, one Fumika, who does her job with a deadpan expression and monotone personality.
But Fumika is getting visibly older as time goes by, which should be impossible. The implication is, then, that somehow Fumika is both a mail carrier AND still alive… Oh, and she carries her. Cause she need dat gat, dead bitches be cray, yo!
A majority of the episodes are mainly about the stories of those whom the shigofumi are being sent to, namely those left behind after the death of someone close or, in a rather sad subversion, someone NOT so close.

Now, this seems like it would be all well and good, some morals here, some tears there, the works. Make no mistake about it: Get used to seeing faces like this a lot. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni this most certainly is not. But there is no doubt that this is intended for mature audiences only. However, as mentioned above, not all the stories are exercises in nihilism.
One story involving a cat and its deceased owners actually manages to be heartwarming in the end. Another involving a possibly-gay tennis player and her vanished mother also comes to mind. Most of all is a truly gut-wrenching, but still uplifting and meaningful episode featuring a terminally-ill 31 year old video game artist, his final struggles and the close relationship he builds with his ten-year-old cousin, a tomboyish otaku girl.

Some of the episodes here are unpleasant, not only in their content but possibly because it is damn close to reality. More tangibly is some storytelling issues. A few dud episodes notwithstanding one, featuring an island and some backstory for Chiaki, although good in concept, is lousy in executionthe overarching plot the show tries to tell is severely hit and miss.
But the whole thing still feels somewhat sloppy, and more distressingly, concludes with what can only be called a whimper a full 5 episodes before the end of the story.
